How has a failure, or apparent failure, set you up for later success?

Failure or apparent failure, has made me more resilient and motivated than ever. I used to be so afraid to fail, to not be my best and be who or where others wanted me to be.

My first taste of failure was when I dropped from a top 5 student to a top 10 student…. Whew! I beat myself up so bad over that and simply couldn’t understand why or how it happened. My second taste was when I graduated and thought that getting a job would be easy because, I graduated from a well known university, had good grades and was a hardworking, ready to learn and helpful person, oh .. boy! Nothing prepared me for the “sorry, we went with someone else “ or the “try again laters” or the “we’ll call you backs” that were never true. However, I just knew that I couldn’t give up, I had to do all that I could, build my skillset to become someone that would be an all-rounder and useful asset to myself, team and community.

Although life has not been exactly what I expected, I’m very happy with where I am today, with all the skills, knowledge, experience and connections I’ve gained so far. I may not be the richest person, or most influential or successful person in the world but I’ve become the most resilient version of myself than I’ve ever been, which to me is success on its own. I’m no longer afraid to try new things, no longer afraid to fail, no longer afraid to think outside the box and for that I’m really proud!

Fall, fail, but don’t forget to get up and try again!

  1. Exactly. Resilience is so underrated! I am not where I thought I’d be (or even where I want to be) either, but I’m grateful for the life I have that’s allowed be to grow. Success isn’t all about how much money you’re making but what kind of person you’re becoming.
